Boats on the lagoon below the cliffs of Le Morne Brabant

Le Morne

A mountain, a huge lagoon and the wild southwest.

Who it is for

Nature lovers, hikers, kitesurfers and couples looking for a beautiful, quiet resort. Best with a car: the village is small.

Top things to do

  1. Hike Le Morne Brabant early in the morning with a guide (the top section is steep).
  2. Learn about the history of the mountain, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, at the Slave Route Monument at its foot.
  3. Kitesurf or take a lesson in the lagoon, best in the windy winter months.
  4. Drive up to Chamarel for the Seven Coloured Earth and the waterfall.

Where to eat

  • The resort restaurants on the peninsula: most guests here stay half board.
  • Snack bars and small family restaurants in the village of La Gaulette, just north.
  • Restaurants in the hills of Chamarel, with views over the coast.

Where to stay

Big beachfront resorts on the peninsula itself; guesthouses and villas in La Gaulette are cheaper and close to the kitesurf spots.
